Head and Neck Cancer Australia joins New Normal Same Cancer national awareness campaign.

Head and Neck Cancer Australia is pleased to join the New Normal, Same Cancer national campaign developed in collaboration with 14 leading Australian patient organisations to encourage people to contact their healthcare professional, get checked, or re-book their missed medical appointments, to minimise the time between cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, cancer referrals have plummeted by 30% at some cancer centres.

Fourteen people are diagnosed with head and neck cancer every day in Australia. Head and neck cancer is three times more common in men accounting for 70% of the 5,100 people who are diagnosed every year. Unlike some more common cancers, there is NO screening test for head and neck cancer so all Australians need to be aware of the signs and symptoms and act quickly if they notice something unusual.

We know that the earlier we catch these cancers, the better people do. Our message to all Australians is to know the signs and symptoms of head and neck cancer, know your body, listen to what it’s telling you and make an appointment with your GP or dentist if you have any concerns. We also encourage everyone to share the signs and symptoms of head and neck cancer with loved ones so that your family, friends and loved ones are aware.
